Welcome to the staff handbook, which has had further changes made to it for 2024-2025. In these pages, you should find almost everything you need to know about the day-to-day operations of The Westminster School, Dubai. Whether you are new to the school or a longstanding member of staff you are encouraged to familiarise yourself with its contents.

At The Westminster School, we believe that an education should stretch young people academically and also develop them socially, all the while supporting them emotionally and ensuring their health, safety and happiness. We believe that with the right support and ambition we can develop our students to become global leaders as well as living happy and fulfilling lives. We do this by creating a safe, respectful and equitable learning environment where everyone is free to express their opinion and where that opinion is fully respected. Everybody should be supported in achieving their dreams. All of this applies to staff members just as much as it does to students and we expect all of our staff, teaching and non-teaching, to do everything they can to develop this culture.
 
We make no apologies for setting demanding academic targets for our students and for expecting our teachers to strive to be outstanding in all that they do. Please remember that academic success is only part of the educational picture and it is equally important that we do all we can to develop the other skills and attributes that make a young person truly exceptional. That’s what great teachers do. I hope that you are very happy at The Westminster School this year and that together we can ensure that our students receive the outstanding education they deserve.
 
Although you should find everything you need in order to make the right decisions within the pages of this handbook if you are ever unsure there is an easy way of making decisions. If you treat TWS children in the same way that you would want your own child or relative treated then you should not go wrong. My guiding phrase has always been, ‘if it is not good enough for my own daughters then it is not good enough for other people’s children’.
